A juvenile in custody of a Clinton County Sheriff's Department transport officer bolted to freedom at 12:31 p.m. Wednesday. But just six minutes later, the officer caught him. The 17-year-old male appeared in Clinton County Circuit Court, but his charge was not available this morning. The suspect ran while Glenn Wilson was escorting him and a female juvenile inmate, both in handcuffs, out of the courthouse after the hearing. 'He took off from the west door,' Wilson said. The female inmate's father also was present and stayed behind with his daughter while Wilson pursued the run-away boy. The subject ran north on Jackson Street to the railroad tracks and cut behind McCollum TV and Appliance Center. 'Citizens helped a lot,' Wilson said. 'They were pointing the way.' Wilson caught the boy on the east side of Prairie Creek between Morrison and Short Ohio streets. 'His six minutes of freedom were short-lived,' Wilson said. Sheriff Mike Hensley heard of the incident this morning. 'Glenn is usually pretty good,' Hensley said. 'Of course when he went up (to court) he didn't know he was going to have another inmate to take with him.' Escape charges will likely be filed, Wilson added. The subject was being held in Delaware County Juvenile Facility. Frankfort city officers assisted. |
