Officials say an inmate has escaped from the Northampton County prison in Easton, the second escape in four weeks. And they say overcrowding at the facility -- which is built for about 600 inmates but holds about 800 -- may be to blame. Officials say the two were being lodged in a work-release building, although they weren't in the program. They remain at large today. Prison officials identify them as Awilda Rosado, a 31-year-old Bethlehem woman being held on a drug possession charge who escaped Thursday, and 37-year-old Diosdado 'Dave' Davila-Torres of Easton, who was being held on theft and related charges and escaped September 13th. County officials had been planning a 452-bed, $24 million-dollar expansion, but it's in limbo because of zoning issues. |
