| Virginia Governor Appoints New Corrections Director |

Governor Mark R. Warner announced the appointment of Gene Johnson as Director of the Virginia Department of Corrections last week. Johnson, a 36-year veteran of the Department of Corrections, has served as Warden of St. Brides, Mecklenburg, Southampton and Powhatan correctional centers, and worked as Regional Administrator in the Northern, Eastern, Central and Southeastern regions. Mr. Johnson was named Chief of Operations in 1985, Deputy Director of Community Corrections in 1989 and Deputy Director of Operations in 1994. He was appointed Acting Director of the Department of Corrections by Governor Warner on Sept. 17th. 'Gene Johnson has compiled a commendable record while ascending the ranks within the Department of Corrections,' Governor Warner said. 'Mr. Johnson shares my commitment to safe and secure prisons and correctional policies that protect human rights.' |
