The mother of a 17-year-old who died while in the Cleveland County jail has been billed $511 by the county for taking her son from the jail to the hospital. Teyreze Neshun Odoms, who died of peritonitis, a severe infection of the abdominal cavity lining, complained to jail officials of abdominal pains for several days. Deborah Odoms says the reason listed on the emergency medical services bill for transportation to Cleveland Regional Medical Center was cardiac arrest. An agreement the county signed with Southern Health Partners says the company is responsible for the cost of transporting inmates to the hospital. Southern is a private company that handles medical care at the jail. Jeff Reasons of Southern Health Partners told The Shelby Star newspaper that Ms. Odoms should forward the EMS bill to his company. Meanwhile, Ms. Odoms says her attorneys are conducting an investigation into her son's death to see whether a lawsuit should be filed. |
