Thomas Jacob Reinman needed money for his retirement, and he had a plan to get it. He was going to rob banks. Reinman, 67, began his retirement in federal prison after he was sentenced last month to eight years in prison for an Alabama bank robbery in December 2001. He is awaiting sentencing for a Georgia robbery. Reinman, a self-proclaimed lifelong nomad, says he has robbed at least a dozen banks from Hawaii to New York and previously spent about 20 years of his life in jail. Broke and in declining health, Reinman says he returned to the bank robbery business since he had no wife, no children and couldn't work. 'I knew it was a matter of time before I got caught,' Reinman reportedly said in a recent interview from behind bars at the Baldwin County Correctional Center. 'I'm not going to stay under a bridge with the homeless.' |
