Rikers Island Chief Reassigned
By Associated Press
Published: 10/24/2002

The Rikers Island bureau chief accused of coercing his staff members to volunteer for Gov. George Pataki's campaign has been stripped of his command, officials said.
Anthony Serra was reassigned Tuesday to an administrative position within the Correction Department's personnel office, Tom Antenen, a department spokesman, said Wednesday.
The Pataki campaign said last week that it would not be using Serra's services during the general election because of questions raised by media reports.
A Daily News article on Friday said Serra collected hundreds of thousands of dollars over the summer to help get out the vote for Pataki.
Unidentified officers told the newspaper that some of those who volunteered had been pressured to do so in order to advance in the ranks.
