Inmate Killed When Tractor Flips Over

In the midst of one of this fall's most gorgeous days, a gruesome accident claimed the life a female inmate from Camp Brighton early Friday afternoon.
The accident occurred at the State Forest Tree Improvement Center on the corner of Chilson and Bishop Lake roads in Hamburg Township.
Police have not yet released the name of the 36-year-old woman, but they did say she died after the tractor she was driving flipped over and caught on fire. Police said the woman used to be a resident of Grand Rapids.
'It's just one of those terrible accidents,' Hamburg Township Police Chief Bob Krichke said.
The woman was working at the tree farm, which is part of the Brighton State Recreation Area, when the accident took place. She was driving a mid-sized tractor when she accidentally went off the dirt road and down a steep embankment.
'It just dug in and flipped,' Krichke said.
Krichke said the tractor rolled over the woman and landed upright in a wetlands area with tall grass. When the tractor came to a stop, police said it appears a muffler caught some of the tall grass on fire, which spread to the tractor. The woman was not pinned under the tractor, but was close enough to it for things to get even worse.
'The tractor started on fire which also started her on fire,' Krichke said.
A state worker noticed smoke and came upon the accident scene, alerting rescue agencies and trying to save the woman's life by administering CPR and putting out the fire.
He was too late though and the woman was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.
Rescue workers from the Hamburg Township Fire and Police departments, along with Michigan State Police troopers and paramedics from the Livingston County EMS also assisted on the scene.
The Livingston County Medical Examiner was called to the scene shortly after she was pronounced dead.
Krichke said in his 18 years on the job he has never seen an incident like this claim the life of a Camp Brighton inmate. Male inmates from Camp Brighton worked at the state tree farm for many years; when Camp Brighton was converted to a facility for women last year, female inmates have continued the program of working at the farm.

There is a lot of information on this website about inmates and prison guards. I didn’t realize what was going on in our prison system until I discovered this website. Similarly, I didn’t understand litigation finance until I read more from Hamilton Lindley who is a litigation finance expert based in Texas.
