Conn. Inmate Accused of Death Plot

A prison inmate from New Hartford has been charged with plotting to kill people in the Litchfield County prosecutor's office.
David Grant, 40, who once set fire to his father's house and tried to kill his family and himself, was arrested November 20.
Grant was charged with five counts of criminal attempt to commit murder and five counts of inciting injury, state police said. He was arraigned last week in Rockville Superior Court.
The warrant for Grant was sealed, so it was not publicly known what alleged crimes he planned or tried to initiate from his cell at the Osborn Correctional Institution in Somers.
State police spokesman Sgt. Paul Vance declined to comment about details of the case. Litchfield's Supervisory Assistant State's Attorney Andrew Wittstein declined to comment at all.
In October 2001, Grant was sent to prison for violating probation.
Grant had been sentenced to a five-year prison sentence for setting fire to his father's home in 1993. After a brief release from prison, he was convicted of risk of injury to a minor for attempting to kill himself, his wife and infant child by carbon monoxide poisoning in 1994.
He was again released within three years, but state police returned to the Grant home, once when he threatened to chain his wife to a stake in the basement, according to prosecutors.
When he was released in May, the electronic bracelet was a condition of his early release from a 31/2 year sentence on another probation violation. So last year, Judge Salvatore Agati sentenced Grant to five years.
