A 15-year Placer County Sheriff's Department employee was arrested at the California facility while on duty last week on suspicion of several felonies, including allegedly aiding in the solicitation of murder. Janice Laverne Swindle, 58, an accounting technician in the Placer County Jail, is suspected of providing confidential information to inmates that could be used for criminal activities, sheriff's department officials report. She is also suspected of intimidating and threatening a witness, both felonies, and a misdemeanor for allegedly furnishing records to an unauthorized person, officials said. She remains in custody in Placer County Jail on a no-bail hold. Officials said an undercover investigation began one month ago when Swindle's alleged activities came to the attention of the department, whose Special Investigation Unit immediately launched a probe, along with the Placer County District Attorney's Office. |
