An unidentified Rapides Parish Sheriff's work release inmate led Louisiana deputies and Alexandria police officers on a high-speed chase that ended with four damaged vehicles and some minor injuries. Alexandria Police Lieutenant Paul Ellington said the inmate took a sheriff's van without permission last week, and a pursuit began immediately, with deputies calling for Alexandria police backup. Ellington says the roughly 25-minute chase ended when the suspect cut through a field and hit a large concrete canal. Police say the suspect's head was bandaged at the scene and he was taken to a local hospital. During the chase, the van driven by the suspect struck one Alexandria police car and later struck a Rapides deputy's unit, which in turn struck another Alexandria police car. The drivers in the last two accidents had minor injuries. |
