A Vermont inmate at the Marble Valley Regional Correctional Facility is facing charges of possessing 28 bags of heroin in jail. Brent C. Shaw, 20, who had been jailed on a furlough violation, has pleaded not guilty to charges of heroin possession and transporting drugs into a prison. Authorities are investigating how Shaw got the drugs.

"We discovered it, and notified the State Police, and they turned it over to the state's attorney's office," said jail Superintendent Anita Carbonell. "For that type of contraband to go past initial entry is very, very unusual."

Inmates are searched several times when they enter jail and when they are moved to other units, she said. Shaw was charged on Feb. 27 when he was jailed for violating his furlough on possession of stolen property and other convictions.

An "anonymous source" told prison staff that Shaw had a "significant amount" of heroin, according to a police affidavit. A prison officer said he asked Shaw about the drugs and Shaw pulled a small package from his sock containing 28 bags of heroin, the affidavit said.

About one-third of our lives are spent at work. With that time invested, it’s reasonable to assume that an employer would want to keep you safe. If you have been Waco construction accident lawyer in Waco you can get the legal advice that you need to get on with your life. If your employer does not have workers' compensation insurance and your employer is at fault for your accident, then you can sue your employer directly with the help of a workplace injury attorney.
