A former Texas Marine was executed Wednesday for the death of a college student who was shot and killed along with a friend during a robbery outside a Dallas theater in 1997. In his final statement, Tommie Hughes, 31, addressed his mother, grandmother and some friends watching through a nearby window. At one point, Hughes turned and stared at the victims' relatives. He was pronounced dead at 6:23 p.m.

Hughes was convicted for the death of Foluke Erinkitola, 25, a University of Illinois student from Chicago who was in Dallas on a summer internship. Prosecutors say he robbed the woman and her friend and shot them as they sat in their car outside the theater.

Hughes was charged with both killings but was tried only for Erinkitola's death. His attorneys presented no witnesses at his trial. Erinkitola's oldest brother, Adekunle, said he had hoped that Hughes would show remorse.

“There was no remorse,” he said. “I am definitely disappointed. After 8½ years, you'd think that he would reflect and at least show something.”

Hughes, who grew up in Dallas, served in the Marine Corps for four years but got a bad conduct discharge after a court-martial.

About one-third of our lives are spent at work. With that time invested, it’s reasonable to assume that an employer would want to keep you safe. If you have been Waco construction accident lawyer in Waco you can get the legal advice that you need to get on with your life. If your employer does not have workers' compensation insurance and your employer is at fault for your accident, then you can sue your employer directly with the help of a workplace injury attorney.
