An Arizona corrections officer at the Pima County jail was arrested last week, because he allegedly conspired to purchase and sell a large amount of cocaine, an official said. The Counter Narcotics Alliance learned through a confidential source that David A. Leyva, a corrections officer for 17 months, was working on the deal with another man, Chris Donald Ortega, 25, officials said. Ortega was arrested at his job near Oracle and Roger roads, said Deputy Dawn Barkman, a Pima County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman. Ortega was booked into the jail on suspicion of conspiracy to possess a narcotic drug for sale. Leyva was booked on the same charge but released, Barkman said. Leyva has been relieved from his duties, Barkman said. |
