A 41-year-old Maryland inmate who was stabbed at the Baltimore City Detention Center has died of his wounds.
Anthony Conaway, jailed on theft and burglary charges, was attacked by another inmate Sunday and stabbed in the neck, said Division of Pretrial Detention and Services spokeswoman Barbara Cooper. He died last week at Johns Hopkins Hospital.
Cooper said the incident was being investigated by the internal investigation unit of the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services and details about where or how the assault occurred were not available.
"We offer our deepest sympathy at this time to the family of Mr. Conaway," Cooper said.
Conaway, a northeast Baltimore man, had been held without bail since September and was being housed with the general population, Cooper said. He also had been charged with violation of probation.
