Officers Search for Contraband

A Massachusetts tactical team conducted a prison-wide search for contraband at the medium-security lockup in Shirley last week in response to a recent inmate protest. The state Department of Correction said in a news release the operation was a "follow-up" to the March 2 protest, in which hundreds of the prison's more than 1,100 inmates refused to leave a recreation yard for about 50 minutes. The protest led to a lock-down at the prison that remained in effect last week.
About 100 members of the state prisons tactical team joined 80 state corrections recruits in searching inmate cells and common areas, including the kitchen, dining hall and work areas. It was not clear when the search would be completed. Department of Correction spokeswoman Diane Wiffin declined to discuss what prompted the search or what had been found.
"It's part of taking every step necessary to return the institution to normal operations," Wiffin said.
The department said that the March 2 protest was triggered by a decision to reduce the amount of "tier time" in which prisoners can mingle with fellow inmates in common areas and make phone calls. The agency said the move "was in the best interest of the institution as it addressed both issues of maintaining safe and secure conditions for staff while being fiscally responsible."

About one-third of our lives are spent at work. With that time invested, it’s reasonable to assume that an employer would want to keep you safe. If you have been Waco construction accident lawyer in Waco you can get the legal advice that you need to get on with your life. If your employer does not have workers' compensation insurance and your employer is at fault for your accident, then you can sue your employer directly with the help of a workplace injury attorney.
