County Signs Deal, Cuts Inmate Meal Costs

The cost to feed Georgia inmates will drop by $50,000 to $100,000 now that a vendor will prepare meals, Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson said last week. County Commissioner Bebe Heiskell signed a contract with Florida-based Trinity Services Group Inc. to provide meals for about $1.21 per meal. Wilson said he is paying about $1.60 per meal by preparing them in-house. Serving 400 meals a day, about 146,000 meals annually, will cost about $176,000 a year under the contract.
Trinity also has contracts with Whitfield, Catoosa and other counties in Georgia, Wilson said. The company will actually increase the number of employees while reducing costs.
“Right now we've got one person trying to do it all, and it's been tough on her trying to do that seven days a week,” he said. “They will supply two additional employees to the jail kitchen.”
The commissioner also renewed a contract with Correctional Care Associates LLC for Dr. Terrell Tanner and his physician's assistant Robert Stultz to provide medical care for inmates.
The contract has nothing to do with ongoing negotiations with Hutcheson Medical Center for inmate care, Wilson said. Tanner and Stultz treat patients just like a family physician would treat patients. If an inmate needs more serious care, Tanner or Stultz can refer them to the hospital.
Tanner and Stultz visit the jail twice a week to see inmate patients at a cost of $2,500 a month. The contract also binds the doctors to being on call at all times. Nurses on Wilson's staff are available to dispense medications at all times.

About one-third of our lives are spent at work. With that time invested, it’s reasonable to assume that an employer would want to keep you safe. If you have been Waco construction accident lawyer in Waco you can get the legal advice that you need to get on with your life. If your employer does not have workers' compensation insurance and your employer is at fault for your accident, then you can sue your employer directly with the help of a workplace injury attorney.
