French film legend Brigitte Bardot has sent a letter to President Bush, urging him to intervene to prevent the execution of a Texas death row prisoner. Bardot says she's been deeply touched by a letter from inmate Farley C. Matchett, who awaits execution for a murder during a 1991 three-day crime rampage. His execution hasn't been scheduled. In her letter, Bardot urged Bush to use his influence to arrange a new trial for Matchett. The star of the 1956 film "And God Created Woman" has concentrated on animal rights campaigns in recent years. But she says she'd help pay Matchett's legal fees if he's given a new trial. The 43-year-old inmate is under a death sentence for robbery and murder. |
