An Iowa inmate at the Johnson County Jail awaiting trial for exposing a 16-year-old boy to the virus that causes AIDS in 2003 is now accused of raping a fellow prisoner last summer. Darrell J. Alderton, 42, so far faces a third-degree sex abuse charge in connection with the jail incident. The victim's claim has been corroborated by other witnesses, investigative reports show. Alderton is currently scheduled to go to trial May 8 for HIV transmission and third-degree sex abuse charges connected to an allegation that he raped a 16-year-old boy at his apartment. Third-degree sex abuse is punishable by up to 10 years imprisonment and a $10,000 fine. Criminal transmission of HIV is punishable by up to 25 years in prison. Court records do not indicate if Alderton will face another HIV exposure charge as a result of this latest allegation. The Johnson County Sheriff's Office has not yet offered a statement about the case. |
