Officer Sentenced For Sexual Abuse
By The North County Gazette
Published: 04/03/2006

You can't go back in time a former New York corrections officer learned last week when he appeared in Clinton County Court to be sentenced for sexually abusing female inmates.
Matthew Smith, 44, of Rouses Point, a corrections officer at the Clinton County Jail for 15 years, apologized to his wife and told Judge Patrick McGill that he wished he could erase the last year and half of his life.
Smith was indicted in June, 2005 on charges that he sexually abused four inmates and a co-worker during 2003 and 2004. In January, Smith pleaded guilty to first degree attempted criminal sexual act, first degree attempted rape, third degree criminal sexual act and two counts of forcible touching.
In sentencing Smith to 3 ½ years in prison, McGill told Smith that a person who goes to jail should have the right to be safe without the risk of being molested or abused. He will be placed on post-release supervision for five years and must also register in the state's sex offender registry.

About one-third of our lives are spent at work. With that time invested, it’s reasonable to assume that an employer would want to keep you safe. If you have been hurt on the job in Waco you can get the legal advice that you need to get on with your life. If your employer does not have workers' compensation insurance and your employer is at fault for your accident, then you can sue your employer directly with the help of a workplace injury attorney.
