An inmate in the Texas State Prison's Stiles Unit was indicted by a Jefferson County Grand Jury for murdering another inmate. According to an investigative report, an investigator says 48-year-old Reagan James Caldwell stabbed 36-year-old Darrell Eugene Gilbert to death on February 14, 2005. The report says Caldwell used, quote, “a weapon fabricated from an approximate 16-inch piece of a five-sixteenths of an inch steel rod that had been sharpened to a point.” 33-year-old Gregory Bennett, another inmate in the Stiles Unit, assisted Caldwell in getting and making that weapon, the document says. According to a background check performed by Hometown News, Gilbert was in jail for theft of livestock. Caldwell has a wrap sheet showing crimes from aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, to DUI, to Robbery, to Homicide. The background check also showed Bennett has been in jail on narcotics charges. |
