Ark. Prison Transfers Inmates, Adds Officers

Arkansas prison officials hope that the transfers of some inmates and the presence of additional officers will keep the North Central Unit in Calico Rock peaceful after two brawls erupted this month between black and white prisoners.
A fight broke out at the medium-security prison on March 21 after a white inmate accused a black inmate of stealing his instant coffee, said Dina Tyler, spokeswoman for the state Department of Correction. The friends of the inmates lined up along racial lines and a large fight began.
Three inmates were injured in a fight in which padlocks _ sometimes swung in socks _ were used as weapons. Inmate Charmorro Williams, 32, remained at the prison hospital in Pine Bluff and is expected to lose an eye, prison officials said.
The second fight on last week was caused by lingering bad feelings from the first fight, Tyler said. There were no serious injuries in that incident. Prison officials took measures to increase security, Tyler said.
"We moved some staff in and we also began to move some inmates out who were either involved in the fight or agitators," she said.
Thirty prisoners were moved to the maximum security prison at Tucker. The prison system also moved in eight additional officers, she said.

About one-third of our lives are spent at work. With that time invested, it’s reasonable to assume that an employer would want to keep you safe. If you have been hurt on the job in Waco you can get the legal advice that you need to get on with your life. If your employer does not have workers' compensation insurance and your employer is at fault for your accident, then you can sue your employer directly with the help of a workplace injury attorney.
