The death of a 25-year-old California inmate at the Santa Clara County main jail was a homicide, according to the sheriff's department. Joseph Boos of San Jose died from multiple trauma to the chest, said sheriff's spokesman Serg Palanov. Correctional officers at West Hedding jail discovered Boos under his bunk bed in a two-man cell about 1:20 p.m. Saturday. He was taken to Valley Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 2:18 p.m. Sheriff's officials said they have a suspect, but would not immediately release his name. Boos had been at the jail since June 17, 2005, on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, vandalism, two counts of threatening a school official and violation of parole. His cellmate has been in custody on a homicide charge since Sept. 24, 2004. Boos' death was the first in-custody death in Santa Clara County jails this year. The last in-custody death occurred in October, when an inmate died from a medical condition. |
