| Inmate Accused of Murder |

A criminal complaint accuses a Dona Ana County jail inmate with killing another New Mexico inmate last weekend. The complaint was filed Thursday in magistrate court in Las Cruces against Dominic Montoya, 29, of Las Cruces. He's charged with first-degree murder, possession of a deadly weapon by a prisoner and tampering with evidence. Another Las Cruces inmate, Adam Avalos, 29, was found unconscious Sunday night after officers were called about a fight. Officials said Avalos died at the scene from multiple stab wounds. He had been jailed on allegations of a probation violation stemming from a 2004 drug possession conviction. |
