Robert Earl Jones Jr., a convicted felon who reportedly could not be found in Jackson Police Department records, has been in state prison all the time, corrections officials said.
Department of Corrections officials said they were unable to initially track down Jones, one of 56 Robert Jones in the prison system, because incomplete information was provided them.
The Jones in question is an inmate at the state prison in Rankin County.
Jones was arrested Sept. 24 for allegedly holding up a Jackson convenience store. He faced up to 15 years in prison for possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.
According to reports there was no record of his arrest on the municipal court document, with Jackson police or with the U.S. attorney's office.
U.S. Marshals who transported Jones to federal court from state prison in September said they returned Jones to state custody, where he has been since, said DOC officials.
