Law enforcement officers in southeast Missouri are actively searching for an inmate who disappeared from the Farmington Correctional Center Jan. 16.
Officers are looking for 41-year-old Nicholas J. Stillman, who was four months into the five-year-sentence he received for second-degree statutory rape from St. Louis.
Pat Smith, assistant superintendent at the Farmington Correctional Center, said they are still investigating how he disappeared from the prison and if he has left the prison grounds.
Smith said they are continuing to develop and follow leads. Prison officials are working with the sheriff's department, the Farmington Police Department and a dog team.
She said they have been able to develop leads but there have been no actual sightings.
A St. Louis news channel reportedly announced that prison officials had tracked the inmate to Routes H and AA in southern St. Francois County, but prison officials deny that there was sighting of him there. As far as where they are looking, a prison official initially said he didn't want to give specific locations.
The prison official later confirmed that blood hounds picked up Stillman's scent from near the prison grounds to the area of Hildebrecht Road, south of Farmington. He said they had not found any of the inmate's clothing or belongings.
At about 8 p.m. Jan. 17, prison officials confirmed that they had brought in an additional dog search team from Algoa Correctional Center in Jefferson City and were at that time concentrating their search in the area of Possum Hollow Road in Knob Lick.
The official said they are following all leads they can come up with.
Smith said individuals should consider Stillman "to be a danger" since he is a "fleeing felon who is being actively pursued." They are asking anyone with information about the inmate to contact their local law enforcement agency.
