A Florida inmate jailed on charges of domestic battery and aggravated assault attacked a nurse in the South County jail Monday evening and fought with two detention deputies who came to her rescue, the Polk County Sheriff's Office reported.

One deputy nearly had an eye gouged out, investigators said. Seymour Lennon, 30, was taken to isolation and his victims went to area hospitals for treatment, they added.

Investigators say Lennon was being examined by Nurse Sandra Collins when he tackled her to the ground and began choking her at the nurse's station in the Frostproof jail.

The nearest detention deputy, Terry Brown, pulled Lennon off Collins and was himself battered several times, investigators said. A second detention deputy, Matthew Chovan, tried to break up that attack when Lennon turned on him, attempting to gouge out one of Choivan's eyes with his thumb, they said.

Several other deputies then rushed into the fray and managed to subdue Lennon.
The two injured deputies were taken to Lake Wales Hospital and Nurse Collins went to Heart of Florida Hospital for treatment of their injuries.

Lennon, who was in jail since just last Thursday, faces new charges of attempted 2nd degree murder for the attack on nurse Collins, and two counts of battery on an officer for his fight with the two detention deputies.

Jail records show his previous arrests in Polk county include Resisting Arrest with Violence, Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer, Depriving an Officer of Communication, Domestic Violence and Aggravated Battery.

About one-third of our lives are spent at work. With that time invested, it’s reasonable to assume that an employer would want to keep you safe. With a workplace injury lawyer you can get the legal advice that you need to get on with your life. If your employer does not have workers' compensation insurance and your employer is at fault for your accident, then you can sue your employer directly with the help of a workplace injury attorney.
