| Prison healthcare reform bill moves forward |

New Delaware legislation in the state Senate could mean changes in health services for the state's prison inmates. The legislation also would require that officers be trained as medical caregivers and would require that all inmates be tested for the AIDS virus, hepatitis and tuberculosis. A recent series by a Delaware newspaper called attention to high rates of inmate deaths from suicide and AIDS. It sparked the current federal civil rights investigation of medical care in Delaware prisons. |
