Four officers reassigned during probe

Four Texas law enforcement officials have been temporarily reassigned while the Harris County Sheriff's Office investigates a fight that injured two prisoners. The fight at the Harris County Jail on April 6 triggered an internal affairs investigation.

"This (investigation) is something that was initiated by a supervisor," Sheriff's Lt. John Martin said. "We take this very seriously."

The incident involving two inmates and several deputies and staff members happened during a search for contraband on the second-floor cell block at the jail at 1200 Baker, sheriff's officials said. Both inmates were treated for bruises and abrasions, and one was later taken to LBJ Hospital for more tests, Martin said. The jail lieutenant on duty then began a preliminary inquiry, officials said.

The lieutenant detected several inconsistencies in the accounts after interviewing staff members, officials said.

"He was less than satisfied," said Martin. "He thought it warranted much greater attention."

A sergeant, a detention officer and two jail staff members have been temporarily reassigned. Officials expect the investigation to be completed late next week.

About one-third of our lives are spent at work. With that time invested, it’s reasonable to assume that an employer would want to keep you safe. With a workplace injury attorney you can get the legal advice that you need to get on with your life. If your employer does not have workers' compensation insurance and your employer is at fault for your accident, then you can sue your employer directly with the help of a workplace injury attorney.
