A Connecticut inmate at the Garner Correctional Facility died Wednesday after a struggle with prison officers, state police said. The chief medical examiner's office in Farmington was to perform an autopsy to determine the cause of death of Edward Henderson, 35, of Clinton.

State police responded to the prison shortly after 11 a.m. after being notified that an inmate was in grave condition after an incident with correctional officers.

A preliminary investigation found that correctional officers were escorting Henderson when he became unruly and struggled with the officers, state police said. Prison staff members restrained him and escorted him to his cell.

State police said Henderson became distressed shortly after arriving at his cell. Prison medical personnel provided emergency care and transported him to Danbury Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. No prison staff were injured in the incident.

State police were investigating, and the Correction Department planned to conduct an internal affairs investigation. Henderson was sentenced last month to up to 15 months in prison for second-degree assault, prison records show.

About one-third of our lives are spent at work. With that time invested, it’s reasonable to assume that an employer would want to keep you safe. With a workplace injury attorney you can get the legal advice that you need to get on with your life. If your employer does not have workers' compensation insurance and your employer is at fault for your accident, then you can sue your employer directly with the help of a workplace injury attorney.
