A group of North Country residents is opposing plans to build a federal prison in Berlin, NH. About 40 people complained at a meeting that the prison's impact on neighboring towns and the rest of the region has been largely ignored. "The city of Berlin had a referendum. The region did not," said Kurt Masters, a meeting organizer. The group is preparing arguments to present at a public hearing next week when the federal Bureau of Prisons will hold a public hearing on the prison plan at Berlin Junior High. |
