Early last Saturday evening, a Mohave County (Ariz.) Jail inmate was assaulted in a cell area known as B pod, the Mohave County Sheriff's Office reports.
According to the MCSO, correction officers directed the cell area to lock down in individual cells so they could investigate the assault. The inmates refused to comply with the directive and damaged a cleaning cart and dumped cleaning supplies. The inmates voluntarily locked down when correction officers entered the cell area assisted by the sheriff's deputies and Kingman Police officers.
The inmate Robert R. Matthews, 27, of Bullhead City, who was incarcerated for aggravated assault charges, was treated by jail medical staff for abrasions. Matthews posted bond January 18 and was released from custody.
The assault is under investigation.
