Wyoming inmates Robert Dix, 25, and Joe Wilkinson, 41, were the first escapees from the Rolling Plains Regional Jail and Detention Center in Haskell, Texas, when they fled the facility Saturday, April 14th.

According to Rolling Plains officials, Wilkinson surrendered about two hours after his escape, while Stamford Police arrested Dix on April 16th.

Both inmates are serving their sentences in Texas because of inefficient space at Wyoming prisons.  The escape is being investigated by Texas and Wyoming officials.

“Together we will ensure that any deficiencies that may have contributed to the incident are identified and immediately corrected,” stated Wyoming Department of Corrections director Bob Lampert in a press release.  “I want to commend the staff at [the Rollins] facility and local and state law enforcement in Texas for their responsiveness and containment once the escape was discovered."

Wilkinson is serving six to nine years for aggravated robbery, and Dix is serving a 45 year-to-life sentence for second-degree murder.

The Rolling Plains jail, which was constructed in 2002, holds local, state and federal prisoners.
