Acting Secretary of California's Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, Jeanne Woodford, resigned yesterday, making her the second official to leave the post in the last three months.

“This choice is based on my commitment to my family and in no way reflects any change in my belief that this department is headed in a positive direction. We have made great progress toward reforming the largest correctional organization in the country and I know that those who will remain after me will continue to advocate the changes that must be made. It has been an honor to serve the Schwarzenegger Administration,” she said in a statement Thursday night.

Woodford, 52, once served as warden of San Quentin State Prison and has more than 28 years of corrections experience. Sources say Woodford's resignation came after repeated conflicts with the California Correctional Peace Officers Association (CCPOA).

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger appointed James Tilton as Woodford's replacement yesterday. Tilton has 13 years of experience in corrections and said in a statement that he had “a good working relationship” with the CCPOA.
