Pennsylvania's Luzerne County Prison Board fired an officer accused of giving preferential treatment to one inmate and assaulting another inmate.
Capt. John "Vito" Corridoni, an 18-year veteran, was dismissed this week. Prison officials would not say why he was fired, but did reveal that the district attorney's office is conducting its own investigation that could result in criminal charges.
An inmate had accused Corridoni and several other officers of handcuffing him and forcing him to lay face down in dirty shower water as punishment for flooding his toilet.
Corridoni also had been accused of giving Nicodemo "Nicky Slick" DiPietro, a convicted murderer and alleged mob associate, pizza and coffee and allowing him unlimited access to a prison phone.
After the hearing, Corridoni denied any wrongdoing and said "the truth will come out in the future."
