A Florida suspect, who tried to escape from Jackson Memorial Hospital and injured a corrections officer in the process, is being held on $50,000 bond.

Manuel Alberto Sanchez is charged with two counts of occupied burglary, third degree grand theft, attempted felony murder of a law enforcement officer and attempted strong armed robbery.

The whole incident started after Sanchez was arrested on charges of burglary to an occupied dwelling on Tuesday afternoon. He complained about some sort of medical condition, so the arresting Hialeah police officer brought him to the emergency room at JMH, according to police.

While he was being treated, in handcuffs, he asked to use the bathroom. That's when he injured a female corrections officer and took off. He managed to get out of the ER and into the hospital courtyard.

The suspect was quickly apprehended by a JMH security officer and an off-duty Opa-Locka police officer who happened to be in the area at the time. The corrections officer spent the night at JMH for observation. The extent of her injuries is unknown.
