Officer accused of domestic violence

Montrose, CO — A corrections officer arrested Wednesday is facing misdemeanor allegations of harassment as a crime of domestic violence.

Roger Fine, 30, was advised Thursday afternoon that he was suspected of the misdemeanor offense in connection with a complaint made by his 22-year-old wife. If convicted, he could face up to six months in jail and a $750 fine.

According to Montrose County Undersheriff Dick Deines, deputies contacted Fine's wife in Delta, where she'd traveled after the alleged incident at the family's Montrose County home. Deines said the couple was arguing over medical issues as the woman bathed their young daughter. Fine allegedly pushed the woman into the bathroom, causing her to hit the wall. When she tried to leave, Fine allegedly pushed her by the throat toward the tub.

“There were no injuries and no alcohol was involved,” Deines said.

Deines said Fine, who is certified as a peace officer, joined the corrections staff last November. He said he did not know Fine well enough to assess what sort of employee he was. Fine's supervisor at the jail said she was not at liberty to discuss his case or work habits, because an internal investigation into the matter is pending.
