Community agencies gain funding

Indianapolis, IN - The Indiana Department of Correction announced that 56 community corrections agencies received $27 million dollars in funding for the next fiscal year starting July 1, 2006.  To receive funding, counties must demonstrate the added value of community corrections programs.

"This is the first time we have kept score with community corrections agencies and I am pleased that the majority of counties have provided leadership, direction and a steady influence in moving toward evidence-based practices and a commitment to serve the target population," said Commissioner J. David Donahue. "More counties are using their community correction programs to transition offenders from prison.  This model promotes successful re-entry and public safety."

Positive changes occurring this year include a formula for Community Corrections grants, a Grant Review Committee and a nationally trained full-time instructor. The IN DOC is also providing nationally-recognized experts in evidence-based practices to consult with counties.
