LOS ANGELES, CA - Several inmates and sheriff's deputies were injured during rioting at the Men's Central Jail in downtown on Tuesday, authorities said. The fighting broke out about 10 p.m., and deputies ended the confrontation by using pepper-ball guns and other weapons, sheriff's Sgt. Cruz Solis said. Three to four inmates were injured as well as several deputies. All of the injuries were minor to moderate, Solis said. The cause of the riot is under investigation. The county's jail system has dealt with its share of racial violence this year. In February, a riot at a jail in northern Los Angeles County left a black inmate dead. Another black inmate collapsed and died after a fight at a downtown jail. The fighting mostly involved black and Hispanic inmates. |
