Montgomery, AL - Alabama corrections officials are investigating an early morning homicide at Limestone Correctional Facility.

Brian Corbett, a prison department spokesman, said Department of Corrections investigators believe the inmate was strangled. The victim's name is being withheld until next-of-kin is notified.

Corbett said the murder occurred around 3:20 a.m. inside a segregation cell at Limestone. The victim was serving a 25-year sentence out of Jefferson County for sex-related offenses.

The unnamed inmate accused in the killing is serving a 20-year prison term out of Lauderdale County for theft, rape and sodomy.

Corbett said both inmates have previous disciplinary citations.

DOC investigators will turn over their findings to the Limestone County district attorney for potential prosecution.
