BOWLING GREEN, KY - A man accused of killing a pregnant teenager was found dead Wednesday by a cellmate at the Warren County Regional Jail. Michael Dewayne Cofer, 29, of Bowling Green was found dead in a shower area of the jail, authorities said. Kentucky State Police Trooper Todd Holder said no foul play was suspected. He did not release a cause of death, and said the state Medical Examiner's Office would perform an autopsy. State police were investigating along with the jail and the Warren County coroner's office. Cofer was jailed Tuesday on a murder charge in the beating death of Okari Moore, 18, of Bowling Green. Moore, who was 22 weeks pregnant, was found Monday in a hallway at Grant Village Apartments. Cofer was arraigned Tuesday on the murder charge in Warren County District Court, where he attempted to enter a guilty plea, said Commonwealth's Attorney Chris Cohron. The judge said he didn't have jurisdiction in the case and couldn't accept the plea, Cohron said. City police said they were summoned to the apartment complex Monday after a report of an assault. Moore was taken to The Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead later in the day. Police Officer Barry Pruitt said the relationship between Moore and Cofer wasn't clear. Cofer turned himself in to a Warren County sheriff's deputy early Tuesday. |
