INDIANAPOLIS, IN - Governor Mitch Daniels issued a formal proclamation declaring the week of May 8, Correctional Employees Week. He called for all Hoosiers to acknowledge the outstanding job that correctional employees perform on a daily basis within a high-risk environment. "Enormous positive changes have taken place in the state and in corrections because of Dave Donahue and because of you," said Daniels. "Tens of millions of dollars have been saved and reinvested. A new meaning of re-entry has been created." A memorial service was held Monday outside Indiana's State House to recognize 12 fallen heroes who lost their lives in the line of duty while serving with the Department. The ceremony ended with Governor Daniels signing Senate Bill 332. "Correctional employees provide a valuable service to the public and are often neglected to be recognized," Daniels said. "This is among one of the most hazardous duty professions and today, I would like to sign this bill to show my support to correctional employees for their bravery." Commissioner J. David Donahue added, "I am proud of the work correctional employees do, everyday. You all have the tough job of maintaining public safety and dealing with challenging situations. This is your week and I commend you for doing an outstanding job." |
