CADDO PARISH, LA - Two Caddo Parish sheriff's deputies have been fired for mistreating a prisoner at the parish jail, Sheriff Steve Prator said yesterday. Kerry Phillips and Dale Lofton were also issued summons to come to court to face misdemeanor battery charges. The deputies were fired for the way they handled an unruly inmate at Caddo Correctional Center, where they worked. Prator said Phillips hit the handcuffed inmate with his fist and Lofton did not follow procedures when he Maced him. The deputies "crossed the line" in handling the inmate, Prator said. Phillips was a two-year CCC employee and Lofton had worked for the Sheriff's Department four and a half years. |
