DOUGLAS COUNTY, NV - A Douglas County inmate escaped Wednesday when he was allowed outside to dump trash, sheriff's deputies said. Jose Luis Estrade Tufino, 35, was serving a year in the Douglas County jail in Minden after being sentenced on burglary, stolen property and property damage charges. Tufino, who earned trusty status at the prison that allowed him to work time off of his sentence with maintenance duties, ran just before 7 p.m. when a deputy escorted him and another inmate outside to empty a trash container. The deputy grabbed the second inmate and watched Tufino run east toward Kahle Park, officials said. Searchers found Tufino's blue jail shirt Wednesday night. Tufino is known to have family and friends in South Lake Tahoe, deputies said. Tufino is about 5-foot-5 and 150 pounds with brown eyes and black hair. He wore blue jeans, a white T-shirt and white tennis shoes. |
