LITTLE ROCK, AR - State prison officials are trying to find out who provided pictures and documents to a newspaper that published an article about recent brawls at the prison system's North-Central Unit at Calico Rock. Correction Department spokeswoman Dina Tyler says no one at the unit had been fired or forced to resign. She says one staff member has been put on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette published a story April 23 saying an unofficial prison system policy was resulting in the transfer to Calico Rock, which had an all-white staff at the time, of black inmates who were causing trouble at other units. The article included documents and photographs plus information from several anonymous sources at the prison. Tyler said releasing confidential information to the public violates department policy and ethics pledges. |
