VAN BUREN, TN - Lawmen continued Monday looking for an inmate who escaped from the Van Buren County Jail. The Van Buren County sheriff's department said inmate Joel Earnest Blanton, 25, escaped from its jail last week. He was waiting sentencing on three counts of child rape when he escaped. The sheriff said a jailer let the inmate out of his cell. That jailer, who told the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation he had done it several times before, has been fired. Blanton was in jail in Van Buren County for check forgery charges. |
