MONROVIA, LIBERIA - The Magisterial Court Judge has called on the government to establish a rehabilitation center for suspected criminals loitering in the streets of Monrovia. Judge Milton Taylor of the Temple of Justice made the call yesterday when he spoke to journalists.

Milton says the Monrovia Central Prison is overcrowded and as such there is no way to keep prisons who are convicted.  He also said 24 prisoners were arrested by the Liberia National Police on May 11, 2006 from the streets and the grave yard for loitering.

Meanwhile the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Liberia, Johnnie N. Lewis, vowed to ensure that the Liberian judicial system shows evidence of improvement and credibility in less than a year.  The Chief Justice made the statement recently during a program marking his official visit to the 16th judicial circuit court in Gbarpolu County.

At the same time, he resounded his consistent warning to judges and magistrates to desist from unethical practices, as he would not hesitate to recommend the dismissal of any judge or magistrate caught.

In response, circuit judge Evelina Quaqua highlighted the need for transportation, absence of a county attorney, lack of prison facilities and the in admittance of judicial payroll of the judiciary as issues affecting the proper functioning of the circuit.
