HARTFORD, CT - Two prison officers were taken to the hospital after an attack by two inmates at the MacDougal Walker Correctional Institute.

A male and female correction officer were assaulted by two prisoners in the high security housing unit around 9:30 p.m., the Department of Correction said.

The attack happened during a period when inmates shower and prepare for bed.
The officers were beaten and kicked. No weapons were found.

The officers were taken to Hartford Hospital. One has since been released and is recovering at home.

The two inmates did not require medical attention. They have been transferred to the Northern Correctional Institution.

The names of those involved have not been released. The facility remains in lock down, which follows standard procedure. State police are also investigating.
