Women prisoners participating in prison rodeo

McALESTER, OK - There are a few changes in store for this year's prison rodeo in McAlester.

For the first time in years, female inmates will compete in the event, which has been around for 60 years. Just like their male counterparts, women inmates will be competing in the rough stock and specialty events.

Traditionally held on Labor Day weekend, the dates of this year's rodeo also have been changed -- to August 18th and 19th. Organizers say the switch to mid-August should allow for more members of the International Professional Rodeo Association to compete in the event.
