More funds for new women's prison

CHILLICOTHE, MO - Missouri has been approvedĀ to borrow an additional $120 million to build a new women's prison at Chillicothe, which will initially hold about 1,600 inmates. However, the state legislature has not allowed its Department of Corrections to receive bids from companies that use a design-build system, which combines architectural work with engineering plans. Corrections director Larry Crawford says this failure could extend the project another year and increase its building costs.
