STRYKER, OH — Seventeen inmates were released early because of overcrowding at the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio.

Those unexpectedly released took the regional jail's afternoon bus back to their town or arranged for a ride from the jail near Stryker. Most had been held for misdemeanors, but a few were at the jail for low-level drug felonies.

Toledo Municipal Court sent 16 inmates home early and transferred another from the regional jail to Lucas County jail. Fulton County Common Pleas Court sent one of its inmates home early. It will be up to the judges who released the inmates to decide whether to order them back to jail to finish their time.

The overcrowding emergency, declared Monday morning when the jail held 611 inmates, was lifted at 7:30 that evening. Yesterday morning, 572 inmates were in the jail.
